  oinciding with the 3rd anniversary of MoCA Shanghai, Couples in Contemporary Art, organized by renowned curators: Jiang Mei and Li Xu, explores gender relations of art couples in the Chinese contemporary art.
Couples in Contemporary Art, showcasing 15 artistic twosomes who both work and cohabit under the same roof. They are: Cao Jingping & Chen Ke, Chen Lei & Yang Ming, Chen Shuxia & Liu Qinghe, Chen Xiaodan & Yang Jianping, Chen Yao-chi & Yuan Jai, Ding Beili & Lu Chunsheng, Fu Liya & Ye Yongqing, Fu Shen & Victoria Lu, Funky Rap & Wow Bravo, Gao Qian & Zhang Jian, Inri & Rong Rong, Ji Jianjie & Wang Yida, Ji Wenyu & Zhu Weibing, Qu Guangci & Xiang Jing, Shen Ling & Wang Yuping. Over 60 artworks are featured in a variety of mediums including paintings, sculptures, mixed-media artworks, photographs and videos.
“I hope that viewers will be able to get a further insight into the relationship between contemporary art couples,” said Jiang Mei. Li Xu added “ I believe that through their works, we can gain a deeper knowledge of the ecology of contemporary art, understand the gender difference between husband and wife, and eventually discover the correlations between life partnership and their artistic features and styles”.
It is the first time for many artists to participate in an exhibition with the “couples” theme. Amongst them is Victoria Lu, a seasoned curator with over 30 years of experience, borrowed a long-scroll ink painting from the Taipei Palace Museum, which she painted at the age of 17. Her artwork is showcased alongside her husband Fu She’s innovative calligraphy. It is also the first time for the two curators Jiang Mei and Li Xu to jointly plan an exhibition.
